2021-Current
Enveng Group is providing embedded environmental management and advisory support to the development of Northern Star Resources’ Hemi Gold Project, one of Western Australia’s emerging major gold developments. Acting as an extension of the project team, Enveng bridges the gap between environmental approvals, engineering design, project controls and construction planning to ensure environmental obligations are effectively integrated into project delivery.
The engagement was established to support the project through approvals finalisation, Final Investment Decision (FID) readiness and early construction planning. Enveng’s role includes identifying and managing environmental risks, interpreting approval conditions and commitments, and translating regulatory obligations into practical, auditable design requirements, construction controls and contractor obligations.
Key responsibilities include:
Environmental approvals and compliance management.
Development of approvals and commitments registers.
Identification and mitigation of design-to-approvals risks.
Integration of environmental requirements into engineering and project development activities.
Translation of approval conditions into design criteria, construction methodologies and contractor requirements.
Development of environmental control frameworks, inspection regimes and compliance systems.
Support for environmental risk management during clearing, enabling works and early earthworks activities.
Advice regarding Section 45C amendment requirements under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA).
Environmental leadership and mentoring within the broader project delivery team.
A significant aspect of the project involves ensuring environmental commitments are embedded within project controls rather than remaining solely within approval documentation. This includes environmental design reviews, contractor obligation schedules, monitoring requirements, fauna management controls, clearing constraints, reporting frameworks and audit requirements. Particular attention has been given to the management of environmentally sensitive areas, including bilby habitat and associated fauna protection measures.
Through this engagement, Enveng demonstrates its capability to operate as an embedded Environmental Lead on major resource developments, providing practical, commercially focused advice that aligns regulatory compliance requirements with engineering, construction and project delivery objectives. The project showcases Enveng’s ability to integrate environmental performance into governance, planning and design processes, reducing approval, construction and operational risks before project execution.
